Full Moon in Aquarius. 8.19.24.

Happy Full Moon in Aquarius, friends.

And hooooo boy has the energy been high the past few days.

So let’s get into how to work with it. ♒️

First: the astrology. Today at 2:25pm ET, we marked a Full Moon at 27 degrees of Aquarius. With the Full Moon ruled by Uranus, and since it happened right across from still-very-retrograde Mercury, the energy in the collective field is highly electrical and unstable. (Read: This isn’t a Full Moon I’d advise using for manifestation.)

Full Moons are always a time to give our bodies whatever they ask for, without apology—rest, comfort food, you name it—and with this Full Moon supercharged with Uranian energy, it’s no exception. My body has been asking for way more sleep than usual; I hope you all are honoring yours in whatever ways you can. And in addition to getting extra rest, extra grounding will be helpful for any of us whose energy isn’t already grounded AF. 😉

Working with the Aquarian Full Moon. Full Moons are when we harvest the seeds or intentions we planted at the New Moon in the same sign, roughly 6 months earlier. So, in the case of this Full Moon, we’re reflecting back on the intentions we set and whatever we were beginning or putting in motion around the New Moon in Aquarius on February 9th of this year.

Ruled by Uranus, at its highest vibrations, Aquarius is associated with group work, humanitarian pursuits, technology, science, and collective consciousness. Bodily, it governs the nervous system. Esoterically, Aquarius is the sign of world servers, aka lightworkers. It’s often called the sign of the water bearer—i.e. the human being as vessel for consciousness or spirit. ⚡️

In our outer lives, for some of us, this will be a moment for reflecting on what’s blooming or coming to fruition in our lives that we were seeding back in February when it comes to group work, networks, technology, science, and serving the collective. For those of us who work with modalities that connect to the higher mind (e.g. astrology, Akashic records, other New Age/Aquarian work), those parts of our lives and work may be up for review or getting spotlighted too.

For those of us on a spiritual path, when it comes to spiritual/consciousness growth and unfoldment, this may be a moment to reflect on how we’ve grown and evolved over the past 6 months when it comes to fusing intellect and intuition (aka left/right brain integration). Esoterically, Aquarius is the sign in which we learn to “live as a soul” instead of as a human being. To perceive with the inner senses (aka our intuition) versus just with the outer.

Side note: Since this Full Moon is ruled by Uranus (and infused by the energy of still-retrograde-Mercury), it may also come with sudden news or curveballs—which could be sudden and wonderful synchronicities we’re being invited to seize and take advantage of. . . or events/news that are less than welcome to the ego. If the latter describes how the energy is showing up for you, trust that any sudden events are in service of your highest and greatest good (even if the whole story isn’t clear yet)—remember: sudden changes are often the triggers our higher selves use to catalyze awakening. Try to see any curveballs or sudden events that might previously have sent you into an anxiety spiral as an opportunity to test your growing capacity to stay centered and grounded and to trust in life through its ups and downs.❤️

Mercury retrograde cazimi in Leo. As we were heading into the Full Moon, still-retrograde-Mercury came together with the Sun in Leo forming what astrologers call a cazimi (this is something that happens once during every Mercury retrograde stretch). Mercury cazimis are like the fusing of individual consciousness with the divine mind. Some astrologers describe these portals as moments when we are invited to “think God’s thoughts.”

Whatever language you want to use, the combination of the Full Moon energy and the Mercury retrograde cazimi opens a powerful portal that can bring heightened mental clarity, sudden insights and breakthroughs, and a greater-than-normal ability to observe one’s own mind. It’s a great time for meditation, reflection, journaling, etc.

Alchemists consider the fixed signs (which includes both Leo and Aquarius) fertile ground for the transmutation of ego desires and values so we can be clearer vessels for soul and spirit. And as I talked about with the New Moon in Leo earlier this month, Mercury retrogrades offer an invitation to review and observe the workings of our own minds—and how they hold us back. So, with Mercury now retrograding through Leo, whatever shadow of Leo may be getting brought into sharper focus now is an invitation for purification of the lower self/concrete mind. 🦁

So: where is Leo shadow holding us back from being our highest selves? Where do ego desires, need for recognition, pride, ambition, vanity, selfishness keep us from being a clear channel for spirit/egoless consciousness to work through? How are outdated ways of thinking or misaligned values keeping us limited to seeing the world through an individual (“I/me”) perspective instead of through the lens of the group (“we”)? 🔎

And some Kamala-strology, too. I couldn’t help but note as I was reviewing the rest of this Full Moon chart how “astrology good” it is for what’s happening in the collective today/this week—i.e. the kickoff of the Democratic National Convention at which we have the first Black woman receiving the nomination for President. (In addition to the Full Moon in Aquarius opposite a Mercury cazimi, Venus is also opposing Saturn, in a t-square to Jupiter.) Uranus loves to catalyze breakthroughs, especially when it comes to social liberation. And Venus opposite Saturn, with an extra boost from Jupiter, is perfectly embodied by a woman rising to a position of leadership (and especially with Kamala Harris in her 2nd Saturn return right now!)—with Mercury’s cazimi giving the news center stage. So good! ♒️

Full Moon in Aquarius prompts.📝♒️⚡️

Here are the prompts for the 6-card tarot spread I crafted to work with this week’s Full Moon in Aquarius energy at its highest vibration. As always, feel free to use any/all of these as journal prompts and to skip the cards—and to work only with whichever of these resonate.

  1. What is blossoming or being spotlighted in my outer life now when it comes to my groups, networks, group work, technology, science, astrology/spiritual awakening/New Age themes? (What messages am I getting now about how I’m being asked to serve the collective?)

  2. What growth have I experienced over the past 6 months when it comes to connecting with and trusting my intuition?

  3. How have I grown and expanded when it comes to trusting in life and embracing change?

  4. What growth am I witnessing in my capacity to put the good of the group ahead of my ego/lower self’s desires or wants?

  5. Where am I being shown that Leo shadow (e.g. ego desires, need for recognition, pride, ambition, vanity, selfishness) is still limiting my capacity to be a vessel for my higher self?

  6. How am I doing when it comes to staying grounded and centered amidst ups and downs? What practices support me in doing this?

BONUS: Where is Aquarius in your chart? If you’re familiar with the 12 houses in astrology, you can go even deeper with Full Moon reflections by knowing which house Aquarius occupies in your chart. Whichever house Leo occupies is the area of life that’s up for review—and where you’re being invited to set intentions for the next 6 months.

Here’s a cheat sheet of keywords associated with the 12 houses:

1st house: the self, approach to life, body, appearance, personality, self-development, self-mastery

2nd house: livelihood, money and how you make it, material resources, self-esteem/self-worth, grounding

3rd house: teaching, communicating, siblings/extended/chosen family, daily routines and schedules, lower mind, integrating into 3D

4th house: home, family, foundation, roots, ancestry, history, self-care, base of operations, your private life
