Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio. 5.5.23.
Happy eclipse season, beautiful souls!
I hope you’re all continuing to take care good care of yourselves and getting lots of rest around today’s Scorpio eclipse (happening at 1:34PM ET), which marks the closing of the eclipse portal opened a couple weeks ago by the solar eclipse in Aries on April 20th.
Before we get into what this Scorpio eclipse is inviting energetically, a quick reminder about eclipse energy:
Eclipse energy isn’t the kind of energy one traditionally works with for manifestation, as with “ordinary” New or Full Moons—it’s unstable, power-surge energy, making grounding one of the most helpful practices we can engage in (along with lots of rest). Rather than doing any rituals or intention-setting, the best way to work with the energy is to let it move through you—and to witness what comes up in your life with curiosity and an extra dose of self-care.
As I wrote about for last month’s Aries eclipse, eclipses tend to mark beginnings and endings; the closing of one chapter and the opening of another. And while April’s Aries eclipse shined a spotlight on new chapters beginning in our lives, this week’s Scorpio eclipse is here to shine a light on endings—offering a powerful invitation to let go of anything holding us back or keeping us stuck.
Put differently, a good way to think about this kind of eclipse energy is that it’s like a pre-scheduled defragging of our hard drives to free up more space and memory for the chapter that lies ahead.
Meanwhile, Pluto isn’t just the ruler of this week’s Scorpio eclipse; on May 1st, Pluto stationed retrograde, awakening our inner alchemists and bringing shadow material to the surface. So, with an extra dose of Plutonic energy in the mix this week, the eclipse will likely bring things that have subconsciously disempowering us into the light of conscious awareness—whether outdated limiting beliefs, unhealthy habits we’re ready to release, compulsions or addictions we’re ready to let go of, fears we’ve been holding onto, toxic relationships, or anything else that’s keeping us from fully owning our power to shape our own lives.
Side note: this is the last eclipse in Scorpio we’ll see for roughly two decades—the prior Scorpio eclipses took place in May 2022 and October 2022—so this eclipse also offers an opportunity to reflect on the ways we’ve been transforming, the conditioning we’ve been shedding, and the ways we’ve been reclaiming our power since May 2022.
To that end. . . here, with love (and all the healing vibes), I’m sharing the prompts for the 8-card tarot spread I crafted to reflect on whatever this week’s Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio energy brings in case you feel called to see where they take you as well.
*NOTE: Mercury remains retrograde until May 14th — click here for a refresher on how to survive and thrive during Mercury retrograde season.
As with all horoscopes, take what resonates and leave the rest!
XOXO,
Rebecca
