Happy Full Moon in Gemini, y’all!

I hope you’re all taking care good care of yourselves and getting at least some rest and self-care in around today’s Full Moon, amidst the back-to-work vibes those of us in the U.S. may be feeling on the other side of Thanksgiving. 🌝

Let’s get into this Full Moon in Gemini and how to work with the energy.

Early this morning at 4:16am ET, we marked a Full Moon at 4 degrees of Gemini. The sign of the Twins, Gemini is traditionally ruled by Mercury and deeply associated with the mind, as well as thinking, language, learning, curiosity, and communication. Physically, it rules the hands, the arms, and the lungs. It’s linked with the archetypes of The Storyteller, The Teacher, The Writer, The Intellectual, and The Talker, among others.

Gemini’s shadow: The lower vibration/unconscious expression of Gemini is hectic, restless, empty activity or chatter. Constant busyness. Getting lost in doing. The restless, anxious, churning, monkey-mind that won’t shut off or stop making to-do lists when you try to fall asleep. The impulse to talk, talk, talk (or text, or communicate via whatever medium, or otherwise stay busy) to keep out the silence that would remain if we let ourselves be still.

Gemini’s higher potential: By contrast, the higher vibration potential of Gemini energy is PRESENCE. In esoteric astrology—i.e. from the perspective of soul growth and development—the work of Gemini is the marriage of the Higher Self and lower self (i.e. the “Twins”). In the parlance of theosophy, this is becoming the soul-infused personality, or a vehicle for the Divine to manifest in form. Connecting the lower mind with the Higher Mind. Or, leaning into the winged messenger side of Mercury, it’s allowing ourselves to become messengers for Spirit.

“From the angle of form, 'let instability do its work.’ From the angle of soul, ‘I recognize my other self and in the waning of that self I grow and glow.’” —Alice Bailey on Gemini in The Twelve Labours of Hercules: An Astrological Interpretation.

In the modern world—and particularly for those of us with a lot of education and/or who make a living using our minds and words—it can be common to identify with our thoughts. I think therefore I am etc.

The mind is without question a powerful tool. But when it runs the show, we lose the capacity to use it as the tool it was designed to be. When we’re identified with the contents of our minds, we lose sight of the truth that we are the silent presence in the background observing all that mental activity. We lose our connection to that presence. And to the present moment.

Meanwhile, when we live in our heads, we get stuck in duality, ego-centered consciousness (duality being a classic Gemini theme)—focused on what makes us separate, instead of our interconnectedness to the larger whole of which we’re part.

How to work with this Full Moon: As with all Full Moons, this one offers a rich opportunity for reflection on our growth over the past 6 months. So, in keeping with these Gemini themes: How are we doing when it comes to cutting out constant busyness so we can be more present in our daily lives? What growth have we been experiencing when it comes to mindfulness and quieting mental chatter? How have we been experiencing ourselves as vessels for embodying the Higher Self? As messengers of Spirit? ♊️

And on the flip side, ideally without being overly self-critical or judgmental of ourselves: What are we being shown about the next stage of work we have to do on this front? (Timing note: the upcoming Mercury retrograde Dec. 13th-Jan. 1st is a great opportunity for said work. . . more on that below.)

Difficult conversations are our teachers: With this Full Moon opposite Mars, fair warning that events in our outer lives may test our ability to stay present in the face of conflict and flaring tempers. Challenging conversations may give us real-time pop-quizzes that test our capacity to take a breath, stay centered, and speak our truth when ego-fueled emotions run high either in others or in ourselves (as can be extra prone to happen when the Sun gets super close to Mars, as it is right now). (If you can, try to see any irritation or ego-drama as an invitation to do yoga off the mat.)

And, finally: given Gemini’s links to learning, writing, and working with the hands—and some other astrology I’ll spare you—this Full Moon may also be a rich moment to: witness and celebrate whatever is coming to fruition when it comes to subjects we’ve been learning or projects we’ve been working on for the past 6 months (especially anything that involves words and/or the hands). . . offer thanks to the (spiritual and other) teachers who have been supporting our growth and unfoldment along the way. . . and reflect on how we’ve been synthesizing the knowledge we’ve gained since June into wisdom. How are all the various words we’ve been taking in (or putting out) finally synthesizing to form a unified story?

OK, that was a lot of words (don’t blame me, I’m just the messenger for the Gemini Full Moon 😆).

So without further ado, I’m sending you all good wishes and many blessings in this Full Moon week, and I’ll send you on your way to scroll on down for the 6-card tarot spread/journal prompts I crafted to work with the Full Moon in Gemini energy at its highest vibration. Remember, as with all horoscopes, to take what resonates and leave the rest.

XOXO,

Rebecca

  2. What is being spotlighted now about any tendencies I have towards restless activity, mental chatter, or getting lost in doing? (And the practices that help me get back to being present?)

  3. What growth is on display now (compared with Me of 6 months ago) when it comes to my capacity to embody my Higher Self/be a vessel for presence?

  4. How have I been learning to use my mind as a tool for spiritual growth and/or service (vs. letting runaway thoughts run the show)?

  5. What is coming to fruition or being synthesized now that I’ve been learning or working on over the past 6 months (esp. involving words or working with my hands)?
