New Moon in Leo. 8.16.23.
Happy New Moon in Leo, beautiful souls!
I hope you’re all enjoying a fabulous, drama-filled (in the best way), heart-centered Leo season. ♌️ 🦁❤️🔥
As a Leo girl myself (and a high school theater nerd), Leo season is one of my very favorite times of year, so I had extra fun putting this edition of Practical Woo together (and it’s coming a little late because I’ve been doing birthday things!). In addition to tarot spread/journal prompts to help you set intentions around this New Moon, I’ve also included a bonus New Moon in Leo playlist to help you tap into, embody (and rock out to) the energy of this gorgeous New Moon.
So let’s get into how to work with this New Moon and what it’s all about.
Very early this morning, at 5:38am ET, we marked a New Moon at 23 degrees of Leo. The sign of the lion, Leo is associated with creativity, self-expression, leadership, pride, courage, individuality, play, and self-actualization. Leo energy loves a stage. It loves to lead. It loves to make an entrance. Physically, Leo rules the heart and the spine. It’s associated with the archetypes of The Leader, The Performer, The Creative and The Drama Queen, among others.
At its lower vibrations, it can be selfish and egocentric, but at its highest vibrations, Leo wants nothing more than to create from and love deeply with its whole heart.
At a more esoteric level, Leo is also associated with “taming the beast within”—i.e. conquering the lower personality/ego-mind so that one may subordinate the lower self to the Higher Self. Leo’s opposing sign is Aquarius, and when the two energies are in balance, you show up as your whole, authentic self—without apology and without dimming your unique light—in a way that serves not just you but the broader collective as a whole.
Leo teaches that the recipe for doing this is getting out of the mind, moving from fear to love, and getting into the heart. And with this New Moon conjunct a still-retrograde Venus, this New Moon is speaking to me as an invitation to get selfish in the best way—by setting intentions when it comes to anchoring in, listening to, and leading life informed by the wisdom of the heart (which, after all, is the voice of your Higher Self).
I’m sending you all good wishes and many blessings in this New Moon week, and without further ado, scroll on down for the 5-card tarot spread/journal prompts I crafted to work with the New Moon in Leo energy—as well as the New Moon in Leo playlist I put together to help you embody and tap into Leo energy at its highest vibration for the rest of Leo season.
XOXO,
Rebecca
P.S. For folks still interested in setting up a Venus retrograde unpack, the $45/45 min special offering for current clients + Practical Woo subscribers closes Sept 3rd when Venus stations direct. Here is the link to book. <3
P.P.S. Speaking of retrogrades, mark your calendars for Mercury to station retrograde on August 23rd. I’ve been so blown away by the response to the Venus retrograde unpacks that I’ve decided to follow up with a special $45/45 min Mercury retrograde unpack special to support folks in working with the upcoming Mercury retrograde. Look out for more guidance on how to work with the energy when Mercury starts his backstroke next week, but for folks who like to plan ahead, here is the link to book. <3
How do I work with a New Moon?🌙🌑✨
In astrology, New Moons are the time for setting intentions and visioning new beginnings for the upcoming six months. (By contrast, Full Moons are a time of culmination and harvest, of reaping the seeds/intentions sown at the New Moon.) So: the intentions we all set now are what we'll be reflecting back on at the Full Moon in Leo in January 2024. This makes New Moons a great check-in moment for long-term planning and conscious goal-setting. And with the New Moon in Leo, the move is to set intentions that come from the heart.
New Moon in Leo tarot spread 🦁❤️🔥📝
Here are the prompts for the 5-card tarot spread I crafted to work with this week’s New Moon in Leo energy at its highest vibration. (Why 5 cards? Leo is associated with the 5th house in astrology). As always, feel free to use any/all of these as journal prompts and to skip the cards. <3
What does my heart most want me to create/make a tangible reality over the next 6 months?
In what ways, or in what areas of my life, am I being called to show up as a leader in the coming months? How am I ready to commit to leading from the heart?
How am I ready to level up when it comes to showing up and self-expressing unapologetically as my authentic self—without dimming my light for fear of being “too much” or worrying about what others might think?
How can I show myself love by building more fun, pleasure, and play into my life? What activities or rituals would make my heart sing if I took steps now to build them into my days and weeks?
What practices am I ready to build into my day-to-day to support me in getting my mind out of the way so I can listen to and align with the voice of my heart?
BONUS: New Moon in Leo playlist! ♌️🎵🎧
Music has long been one of my favorite ways to shift and connect with energy. So since I put together a New Moon in Leo playlist for myself, I figured why not share it? Click here to check it out on Spotify. Give a shout and let me know if you like it—I had so much fun putting it together, zodiac playlists just might become a regular part of Practical Woo <3
